Jennie Garth Talks Divorce: “I Am So Much Stronger Than I Thought I Was”

Monday, April 23rd, 2012

As we already know, Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli are divorcing after 11 years of marriage.

Although we’re sure this is not an easy time for the celeb couple, the former 90210 star shares on Ellen (airing today) that she hopes her experience will help other women who are going through a similar situation find strength.

“You’ve been very open and honest talking about the divorce and your relationship. Do you feel like it’s helping to talk about it? How do you feel about it?” Ellen DeGeneres asked the TV star.

“It’s not something I’m dying to talk about, but it’s something that’s going on in my life,” Garth responded. “I’m not ashamed to talk about it. I think by being open and honest with what I’m going through maybe it helps somebody else. I know, I’ve heard from a lot of people that it helps them, maybe with what they’re going through. I’m not afraid to talk about it.”

She continues, “I mean we’re still a family of some kind, and we’re still so committed for being there for our girls. That’s the most important thing for us. I think at first, I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it through, but I really learned that I am so much stronger than I thought I was.”

Jennie Garth and Peter Facinelli Deny ‘Hurtful’ Cheating Rumors

Monday, March 19th, 2012

The public announcement of their split was painful enough, but Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth were blindsided – and deeply hurt – by the almost immediate flurry of Internet reports speculating infidelity had triggered the demise of their 11-year marriage.

So to set the record straight, the actors tell PEOPLE exclusively: “There are rumors out there which are completely untrue and hurtful to our family. We just want to make it very clear – there are no third parties involved.”

The statement, made jointly by Facinelli, 38, and Garth, 39, comes a day after they jointly announced their plans to divorce.

“While we have decided to end our marriage, we both share the same deep love and devotion to our children. We remain dedicated to raising our beautiful daughters together. We ask for privacy and respect during this time,” they said Tuesday in a statement to PEOPLE.

The pair, who have three daughters – Luca, 14, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5 – met on the set of TV movie An Unfinished Affair in 1996, and married in 2001.

Facinelli is known for his roles in the Twilight films and on Nurse Jackie, while Garth played Kelly Taylor on the iconic Beverly Hills, 90210.

Actress Jennie Garth is an eco-mom

Friday, October 15th, 2010

Former Beverly Hills 90210 actress and Dancing with the Stars contestant and eco-mom Jennie Garth has already spoken publicly about her fondness for eco-friendly apparel and personal care items.

In July, she told EcoStiletto.com that, “I’ve always been conscious of the environment, but having kids changes every aspect of your life. I want this planet to be around and in good shape for my children and their babies. I also want them to have the cleanest foods, healthcare and personal care products I can find. There are some great eco-friendly kids’ lines out there.”

Now, the actress is teaming up with the National Center for Safe Routes to School and Green Works to encourage families to walk to school, as part of International Walk to School Month.

“It’s a good opportunity to get families thinking about quality time together and giving back to the environment,” Garth told Parade magazine. “It goes hand in hand with greener living. And it keeps kids healthy and promotes family time.”

Garth and her husband, fellow actor Peter Facinelli, are also in the process of building a green home in California’s Santa Ynez Valley.

“We bought 15 acres and we’re going to build a house that’s green from the ground up. And we’re actually going to be documenting it, sort of like a reality show. Hopefully, educating people on how to be green,” she told Parade.

Beverly Hills 90210 star Jennie Garth asks House to support H.R. 5504

Friday, September 17th, 2010

Actress and long-time vegetarian Jennie Garth recently penned a letter to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in which she asks the Speaker to support the Improving Nutrition for America’s Children Act (H.R. 5504), legislation, that if passed, would improve the quality of meals served to children both in and out of school.

“I’m writing to you because I am passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles. This past year, I have been working to educate and motivate children to make healthy choices,” explains Garth. “But nutrition education isn’t enough. We also have to make sure that every child in American can find healthy foods in their school cafeteria.”

The Beverly Hills 90210 star, who has also served as a spokesperson for Hidden Valley’s “Love Your Veggies campaign”, continues by expressing her concern for the current lack of healthy food options school cafeterias provide for children and the unfortunate repercussions that poor nutrition eventually lead to:
Right now, unfortunately, the food served in many schools is too high in saturated fat and cholesterol. Cafeterias are serving pepperoni pizza and beef burritos and other high-fat foods, and healthy choices aren’t always easy to find. That’s especially troubling because more than a third of America’s children are overweight or obese. Obesity can lead to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and some forms of cancer.

Garth joins more than 30 other celebrities in support of the legislation.

Peter Facinelli Is a ‘Babe’ – Just Ask Jennie Garth

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Twilight fans may swoon over Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner – but Jennie Garth has the hots for another vamp: Her husband Peter Facinelli, who plays Carlisle Cullen in the film series.

“I always see him as really foxy,” Garth told PEOPLE about her heartthrob husband at the Style n’ Smile event on Thursday in New York City. “I’ve always thought, ‘Wow, I’m super lucky.’ He’s a babe.”

Even after 15 years together, their relationship remains strong – and they have passed their good genes on to their three daughters Luca, 13 Lola, 7 and Fiona, 4.

But that’s not all they have passed on. Garth says that although her kids are exposed to Hollywood life – and beauty expectations – she tries to make sure her kids are confident and have a positive self-image.

“My mom really instilled in me that I’m beautiful and I can do anything, and I echo that now with my own girls,” says Garth.

She also leads by example, showing her girls that it’s okay to be silly as long as you feel comfortable with yourself. With years as a teen star under her belt, the former Beverley Hills, 90210 star doesn’t let gossip or fame keep her from being fun or wacky.

“This is me, take it or leave it,” says Garth. “And I hope that by example, I might be showing my girls that it’s all fun.”
